This page provides information about resources available to individuals who are experiencing a psychological crisis, safety concerns for themselves or others, or who would like to speak to a mental health professional for support.
The services listed are local to North Carolina, as well as Wake County, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area, and nationally across the United States, as indicated in the description.
Call or Text 988. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free, private support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyone who is depressed, going through a hard time, needs to talk or is thinking about hurting themself can get help. The Lifeline is available to everyone—you can call for yourself or a loved one who may need crisis support.
988 is not the police. It is not the same as calling 911.
Your identity is private. 988 cannot share what you say with anyone—including hospitals, parents or the police—unless someone's life is in immediate danger or a vulnerable person is being abused.
YOUTH:
The Hope Center’s Mobile Outreach Response Engagement Stabilization (MORES) service for youth ages 3-20 in Wake, Johnston, Orange and Durham Counties, 24 hours/7 days a week. It is a specialized crisis response service for youth and their families, to address immediate crisis, and assist in connection to community resources and providers and to reduce hospitalizations and out of home placements. This service allows professionals to stabilize the crisis without adding additional trauma from police presence, unless needed. Contact KidsPeace (484-215-6756) during the time of crisis.
Hope Center for Youth and Family Crisis Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) is similar to the “urgent care” model for medical care, but for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis, from 5 to 20 years of age. ADULT/YOUTH:
Wake County Mobile Crisis Team: call 877-626-1772 Mobile Crisis response provides an immediate evaluation, triage and access to acute services for adults and children. Mobile Crisis responds to individuals experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis; individuals with suicidal or homicidal thoughts, children with behavioral issues and substance abusers in need of treatment. Mobile Crisis can respond to any type of residence, public places, and schools and are able to meet face to face with an individual in crisis within 2 hours of a call.
The NC Peer Warmline (1-855-PEERS-NC) is a free, private phone number you can call day or night to talk with someone who understands. You’ll be connected to someone who has personal experiences with mental health or substance use disorders. You can call any time you're feeling sad, stressed, lonely or just need to talk. You don't need to be in crisis to call.
